Prime Minister defended Rachel Reeves in a speech on MondayHe was accused of misleading the public by lying about the economic forecasts he received to justify a £26 billion tax increase.
It has emerged that ahead of his speech, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) told him that the public finances had significantly improved and that instead of a deficit, they had a surplus of £4.2 billion.
Backing Ms Reeves, who has denied she lied, the Prime Minister said the Budget was a “moment of personal pride”.
Sir Keir was also challenged over reforms to the justice system announced on Tuesday (December 2), which will see juries abolished in so-called ‘any cases’ that carry a potential prison sentence of three years or less.
It came as Justice Secretary David Lammy revealed that 12 prisoners have been released by mistake in the past three weeks, including two who are still at large.
