Idukki, October 14 (IANS) A Maoist leader accused of killing three policemen in a bomb blast in Jharkhand has been arrested from Munnar in Kerala’s Idukki district.
The accused, identified as Sahan Tudi Dinabu, a native of Jharkhand, was arrested late on Monday night in a joint operation by the Kochi and Ranchi units of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in collaboration with the Kerala Police.
Dinabu was hiding in Gudarvilla Estate in Munnar with his wife as a guest labourer.
Before the operation, he was under NIA surveillance for several weeks.
Acting on specific intelligence, officers surrounded the property and arrested him without resistance.
According to investigators, Dinabu had been operating at this property for more than one and a half years, evading detection after fleeing from Jharkhand.
He is the main accused in the Maoist attack in which three policemen were killed in a bomb blast.
This arrest is part of the nationwide operation against the Maoist network.
NIA sources said Dinabu might have maintained contacts with other operatives in different states.
His arrest is being considered an important success in the ongoing anti-Maoist operation.
After the arrest, the accused was taken for medical examination and is currently kept in safe custody at Munnar Police Station.
He will soon be taken to Jharkhand for further legal procedures and detailed interrogation.
Officials said the operation reflected close coordination between the state police and central agencies.
The NIA is expected to interrogate him further to uncover possible Maoist links in Kerala and neighboring states.
Investigators believe that his arrest may lead to more success in dismantling the network of extremists operating in different areas.
Over the past few years, migrant workers from many states have moved to Kerala and a large number of them earn a good income by being engaged in construction activities. In the past, there have been incidents of such people coming into police custody for crimes committed in their own states.
