After a call with US President Donald Trump and other European leaders on a possible ceasefire talks with Russia, on Monday (local time) Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelancesi fought his uncertainty about Russia’s readiness, citing lack of confidence in Moscow’s intentions.
Zelancesi highlighted the desire of Ukraine’s complete ceasefire to push up, a proposal initially put forward by US President Donald Trump, while emphasizing the need to demonstrate real commitment through Russia’s concrete works.
“I do not know the principles of the Russian side. As I understood from our dialogue with US President Trump, the Russian side wants to send us a memorandum that they see the principles, and they not only want to see a ceasefire; they want some more principles,” Zalensky said.
“I really trust that everyone is very interested in a ceasefire. Many disadvantages; we really want to end this war. I am not sure that Russia is ready and we do not trust them. And that’s what we want to them: a ceasefire, on the first step, on the first step, to show that they are really ready to stop the war,” he said.
Ukrainian President also underlined his frequent communication with international partners, saying, “I always share with all my partners with the United States, Europeans with Europeans … I was very happy when President Trump proposed a complete ceasefire without any condition or re -conditions. We are ready for it. We are ready for it. So we are our principles: Ceasfire and then other steps, a tribute.
Zelansky’s comment follows her engagement in a call with Trump and European leaders, during which she confirmed Ukraine’s readiness for direct interaction with Russia.
After the announcement by US President Trump, this development is such that Russia and Ukraine would begin negotiations towards a possible end for a ceasefire and ongoing war, the Vatican offered to host the talks after the recent failure of the ceasefire negotiations in Istanbul, despite the agreement to exchange prisoners between the two nations.
