New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) As part of the 63rd Walong Day commemoration, a battlefield trek was organized from Dichu-Karoti-Namati-Ashi Hill paying a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable courage and supreme sacrifices of the Indian soldiers who fought during the Battle of Walong in 1962, officials said on Saturday.
The event saw enthusiastic participation of NCC cadets along with their instructors and local children who explored the historic battlefield where Indian soldiers displayed unmatched valor six decades ago.
The trek included a series of engaging activities like ziplining, joyrides in All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), and a live demonstration of the Battle of Namati Plains presented by the Indian Army, making history come alive for the participants.
Ashi Hill and Namati Plains hold a special and emotional place in the military history of India. The Namati plain, referred to as the “Tigers Mouth” by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was the site of fierce resistance where Indian troops, though significantly outnumbered and ill-equipped, bravely halted the enemy advance towards Walong.
Similarly, Ashi Hill stands as a silent sentinel, bearing witness to the grit, determination and patriotism of Indian soldiers fighting against overwhelming odds in the high Himalayas.
The objective of the battlefield trek was not only to honor the memory of the martyred heroes but also to inculcate pride among the youth, introducing them to the glorious deeds and sacrifices of India’s soldiers.
It also sought to strengthen the bond between the armed forces, local communities and the youth of Arunachal Pradesh, fostering a deep sense of unity and national pride.
“The visit aims to instill pride and acquaint the younger generation with the glorious deeds and sacrifices of Indian soldiers, as well as strengthen the bond between the armed forces, youth and local communities of Arunachal Pradesh,” officials said.
Reinforcing the spirit of Walong, the event celebrated the legacy of courage, resilience and unity, and reminded all participants that the valor displayed in 1962 has continued to inspire generations of Indians to uphold the honor of the nation with unwavering dedication.
