Craig Bellamy was shocked by the penalty decision
“I’m obviously proud of the players,” Bellamy told BBC Sport. “We were extraordinary in what we were trying to do.
“It’s not great because we lost. We had the momentum but the penalties gave them a boost and even the crowd went down.
“We conceded three penalties against Belgium. We scored five goals against them but didn’t get a point, so it’s difficult to take.
“I have no complaints about the other [penalty]But the first? What should we do with our hands?
“It’s not sour grapes and congratulations to Belgium, but we conceded four penalties from handball.
“We didn’t deserve it at that time. We had to respond but they responded better in that period.”

Ben Davis says ‘the dice have not turned in our favor’
“It was a frustrating game, we started well, created a lot of chances and it felt like there was a harsh punishment on the pitch,” he said. “It was one of those games where the tables didn’t turn in our favor.
“I’m proud of the boys, Belgium showed us great respect and played comfortably on the counter-attack against us, and that doesn’t happen often. Their game plan worked tonight, and it’s another great lesson for a young group.”

Harry Wilson: We ‘never recovered’ from penalty blow
“It was really disappointing,” Wilson told BBC Sport. “Belgium’s result against North Macedonia really gave us confidence because it was back in our hands and we wanted to perform really well.
“We started really well, we wanted to be on the front foot, try and put pressure on them and create chances and we managed to get the early goal through Joe.
“I haven’t watched the penalty back but it seemed a bit harsh to me; Ethan was just going from side to side and it hit his hand.
“Maybe it’s unfortunate but we have to defend the second goal better. We are 2-1 down from a positive start and it takes the energy out of us.
“Another penalty is disappointing when we’re looking to get back into the game and then we get ourselves back into it within a few minutes and concede from the kick-off.
“We wanted it to be a special night under the lights. The penalty burst the bubble a bit and it didn’t feel like we recovered from there.”
