“I can understand the link because I’ve played there,” he said.
“I definitely understand the link, but I love what I’m doing at the moment and I’m completely focused on what’s to come.”
He turned his immediate focus to a potential World Cup play-off in March, saying, “I couldn’t ask for anything more in this current moment. That’s where I’m at. Nothing else is on my radar and it won’t be on my radar. I’m a real proud Welshman.”
Bellamy, 46, signed a contract in July 2024 that extends to Euro 2028, a tournament Wales will co-host as part of a joint UK and Ireland bid.
He commented, “I don’t think anyone is as proud to be Welsh as I am, and I’m sure we all feel the same.”
“This (job) has made it even more. It really has. I’ve fallen in love with the country even more.”
“I’m grateful for what I have at the moment and I have many years ahead of me. I have a four-year contract. I think I can keep going for as long as I want and the people in Wales think I can add, so that’s something that motivates me and I keep staying.
“It’s been the best time of my life and hopefully it will continue.”
The manager also announced a 26-man squad for Wales’ final qualifiers against Liechtenstein on 15 November and North Macedonia three days later.
One notable absentee from the squad was Aaron RamseyWhose Mexican club Pumas UNAM has reported the mysterious disappearance of his family dog.
Ramsey, an 86-time capped midfielder, was included in the squad for matches against England and Belgium last month before being withdrawn with a hamstring injury.
Reports from Mexico suggest that Ramsey and the Pumas have terminated his contract by mutual consent, after his 10-year-old beagle, Halo, went missing from a dog shelter while wearing a tracking collar during Ramsey’s absence from the club.
Neither the player nor the club have yet confirmed their parting ways. However, Bellamy avoided commenting directly on Ramsey’s club situation.
“It’s not for me to give clarity on that. It’s for Aaron and the club he’s at or not,” he said.
He confirmed Ramsey’s unavailability for upcoming matches due to injury: “He is not available at the moment because he is still injured. It was definitely not an option for us.”
Bellamy sympathized with Ramsey’s personal suffering, concluding, “I know it’s a difficult situation for his family. It’s the most heartbreaking situation I’ve been in. There are other things more important than football.”
