New Delhi, 6 October (IANS) Vice President and President of Rajya Sabha CP Radhakrishnan and visited the Secretariat of the Upper House on Monday and participated in a detailed presentation on various divisions and initiatives of the office, an official said.
During the visit, he interacted with the officers of the Secretariat and reviewed its functioning, including its role in providing legislative, administrative and procedural support to the House and its members, the official said in a statement.
Sources said that VP has been marked his first formal conversation as the chairman of the upper house with elected representatives on Tuesday to meet floor leaders of various parties including opposition parties.
The meeting is a precursor for the winter session of Parliament, it is likely to begin next month. In the formal meeting of VP with floor leaders, the smooth functioning of the house may also be discussed during the upcoming session.
Radhakrishnan, a candidate named by the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was elected as the 15th Vice President of India on 9 September and was accused on 12 September.
He voted 452 votes compared to 300 of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India) candidate, former Justice Sudarshan Reddy.
The winner left the quota behind to decide the victory, which was determined as 377, underlined the NDA’s parliamentary majority and coalition discipline.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), a total of 767 votes were voted, of which 752 were found valid and 15 were invalid.
According to Rajya Sabha General Secretary PC Modi, the returning officer, polling, room number F -101, Vasudha, Parliament House was held between 10 am and 5 pm. After the conclusion of the voting, the counting of votes started at 6 pm.
Radhakrishnan’s five -year term will extend by 2030, stopping the vacancy before any time.
As a former Rajya Sabha officer, the Vice President will preside over the Upper House and will serve as the President in the event of a vacancy in that office, as determined by articles 67 and 71 of the Constitution.
