Jammu, October 1: A joyful day of democracy was witnessed at the polling booths in remote Dudubasangar area of Udhampur district in Jammu on Tuesday as voting for the third phase of the assembly elections took place.
Udhampur district consists of four assembly constituencies including Udhampur West, Udhampur West, Chenani and Ramnagar 62.
A total of 654 polling stations have been set up in the district.
Several terror-related incidents and other terror-related activities took place in remote areas of Ramnagar, including Dudubasanghar area.
This year, there have been many encounters, terrorist attacks, and confrontations in the area, and large-scale alert and search operations (CASO) are regularly conducted to track suspected terrorists in this remote area.
A CRPF officer was also killed in an encounter at Chilly Dudu in Udhampur on August 19, while in April this year, a Village Defense Force (VDG) officer was killed in an encounter with terrorists in the area Loss of life.
On August 6, another encounter between militants and terrorists occurred in the Dudu area. This year, there have been nearly a dozen terrorist-related incidents in the area, including attacks, encounters, exchanges of fire, and exchanges of fire.
However, despite this security situation, long queues of voters were visible outside most polling stations in remote areas, with people braving various security concerns to vote and elect their representatives.
Long queues formed outside stations starting in the early morning and some polling stations were packed with voters until late afternoon, after which voter turnout slowed down, as is usually seen in all regions.
“There are some security concerns, but it has no impact on the spirit of our democracy,” said Rajesh Kumar, a voter at Dudu High School polling station.
Kumar, while citing several horrific incidents in the region over the past six months, felt that people’s spirit and confidence far outweighed their fears.
