Pathanamthitta, October 20 (IANS) Former Kerala BJP state president K. Surendran on Monday alleged that the Sabarimala gold heist took place with the knowledge of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and demanded a central agency probe into the matter.
Speaking to media persons during a protest meeting organized by the BJP in Ranni, Surendran described the ongoing SIT investigation as a sham and claimed that it was aimed at protecting senior officials while targeting only a few individuals.
According to Surendran, the Chief Minister held an urgent meeting with former Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran a day before the government announced the SIT probe.
He alleged that the meeting was a covert strategy to prevent the real facts regarding gold theft from coming out.
“The SIT is targeting only Unnikrishnan Potti and some officials, while ministers and the Devaswom board chairman are being spared,” Surendran said.
He questioned whether Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would have the courage to write to the Central government requesting an independent investigation. Surendran stressed that an investigation by a central agency is necessary to reveal the entire truth and ensure accountability.
The BJP leader’s comments come amid growing public scrutiny over his handling of the Sabarimala gold heist case, which has sparked widespread debate across Kerala.
Surendran criticized the state government for lack of transparency and alleged political manipulation in the investigation.
He also reiterated allegations against the Pinarayi government regarding the management of Sabarimala, and said that the decision regarding entry into the temple is a violation of tradition.
BJP’s protest meeting in Ranni saw the participation of several party leaders and workers, highlighting the political and social sensitivity associated with the issue.
Surendran’s statements underline the party’s demand for an impartial, central-level inquiry to bring clarity to one of Kerala’s most high-profile recent controversies.
Meanwhile, Hindu organizations are preparing to submit a memorandum to President Draupadi Murmu when he arrives to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple on Wednesday, seeking his intervention to protect the sanctity of the temple and punish wrongdoers.
