Bhopal, 30 September (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep grief over the death of former state president of Delhi Janata Party, Delhi, Vijay Kumar Malhotra.
The Chief Minister said that the dedicated life of Malhotra, who strengthened the foundation of the organization, will continue to inspire countless party workers.
He prayed to Baba Mahakal that the departed soul should be given a place on his feet and gave strength to the bereaved family to bear this deep loss.
At the age of 93, Malhotra died in New Delhi even today. His mortal remains have also been brought to his residence.
The death of veteran politician Malhotra has made the political gallery of the national capital unhappy, as he was one of the founding members of the BJP in New Delhi.
Born on 3 December 1931 in Lahore, Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan), Malhotra Kaviraj Khazan Chand was the fourth of the seven children.
Malhotra was elected President of Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh (1972–75) and twice as the chairman of the Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi Pradesh (1977-80, 1980-84).
Along with leaders like Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana, Malhotra is credited with maintaining BJP’s strength in Delhi for decades.
His most notable political victory came in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, when he defeated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by a huge margin.
Malhotra served as a five -time member Parliament member and a two -time MLA from Delhi, who became one of the most senior BJP figures in the capital.
Expressing his condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on the X, “Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji distinguished himself as an excellent leader who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played an important role in strengthening our party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his parliamentary interventions.
