The Param Vir Gallery is a significant transformation of the corridors of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which once displayed portraits of British ADCs. The gallery now displays extraordinary acts of valor and supreme sacrifice by India’s bravest soldiers.
The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India’s highest military honour, awarded for displaying the most extraordinary acts of gallantry, courage and self-sacrifice during combat.
According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, the mission of the gallery is to educate visitors about our national heroes who defended our country with ‘fearless resolve and invincible spirit’. It is also an initiative to honor the memories of our brave men who have given their lives in the service of the country.
“The initiative to display portraits of Indian national heroes is a meaningful step towards abandoning the colonial mindset and proudly embracing the richness of India’s culture, heritage and timeless traditions,” it said.
On this occasion he also honored PVC award winners and next-of-kin.
In a post on Twitter, the official handle of the President of India shared photos of the occasion, which was attended by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and other dignitaries.
