Hanoi:
Vietnam has ordered Netflix to stop advertising and distributing games in the country by April 25 as the US streaming platform Netflix has not yet obtained a game service license, the broadcasting authority said on Thursday.
“Vietnam requires Netflix to comply with Vietnam’s regulations on gaming online services,” the Broadcasting and Electronic Information Authority (ABEI) said in a statement on its website.
“We order Netflix to stop advertising and publishing Netflix’s video games on the Netflix app, Vietnam Appstore and Vietnam Google Play Store by April 25,” the statement added.
The streaming platform, which has been repeatedly ordered by the government to block domestic access to various content, is looking to open an office in Vietnam, Reuters reported.
Netflix launched its foray into gaming in November 2021 with the launch of Netflix Games on mobile phones.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
