Video: Tesla's Optimus Prime robot takes a walk with Elon Musk

The video has been viewed 12.4 million times on the platform.

Elon Musk often shares interesting content on his X (formerly Twitter) account, from memes to updates on products his company is developing. Now, the billionaire has shared a video of Tesla’s Optimus Prime robot walking around a room.

“Take a walk with Optimus Prime,” Elon Musk wrote. The video shows a robot moving slowly around the room. A small group of people can be observed watching the robot’s movements.

Since being shared, the video has been viewed 12.4 million times on the platform.

“One small step for a robot, one giant leap for a robot,” one user said.

One person added: “Optimus Prime takes one step at a time to create a brighter future for us all.”

Another added: “This is just the beginning. Eventually, Optimus Prime will be able to walk with human fluidity and speed.”

One said: “Love these Optimus updates. Great to see the improvements.”

“Our pursuit of artificial intelligence could destroy the world faster than climate change. Imagine these things malfunctioning, that would be horrific, worse than any terrorist attack,” one person commented.

Notably, the Optimus robot is part of Tesla’s artificial intelligence and robotics division and takes an AI-first approach. The company says this is the only way to build a fully autonomous bipedal robot with the help of inference hardware. Optimus Gen 2 is the latest Tesla robot, the successor to Optimus Gen 1 launched in March 2022.

A few days ago, the billionaire shared a video of a Tesla Optimus robot expertly folding a T-shirt. The video shows the humanoid robot smoothly pulling a T-shirt from a basket and folding it with both hands, mimicking human movements. However, as the video began to gain traction online, Musk was forced to issue a clarification that Optimus Prime couldn’t do it on his own just yet, but would certainly be able to do it in the future.

“Optimus Prime folds a shirt,” Musk wrote while sharing a video of the robot on X. However, Mr. Musk clarified in a follow-up post that the robot was not yet capable of doing this autonomously. “Important note: Optimus is not yet able to do this autonomously, but will certainly be able to do this completely autonomously in any environment (no need for a fixed table and a box with just a shirt),” the billionaire wrote.
