Dubai’s famous cryptocurrency conference TOKEN2049 suffered severe disruptions due to heavy rainfall, resulting in massive flooding in and around the venue, Crypto era the report said.
TOKEN2049 is a global conference series where people interested in cryptocurrency come together to discuss ideas, make connections, and shape the industry. It was scheduled to last until April 21.
Despite an excellent line-up of speakers, including Peter McCormack, Vitalik Buterin and Dovey Wan, attendees are now still grappling with the consequences of adverse weather conditions.
A “hazardous weather event” will continue through Wednesday, according to an alert issued by the National Center for Meteorology.
Attendees shared pictures and videos online of the flooded event.
One user wrote, “This campaign has been liquidated.”
Event organizers conducted an online poll asking attendees about their transportation plans, and more than 40 percent responded “by boat.”
Despite heavy rain and flooding, organizers assured attendees of dry and sunny conditions during the main event, scheduled for April 18-19.
A year of heavy rain in Dubai has triggered huge flash floods and turned roads into rivers, disrupting daily life.
Dubai previously suffered flash floods in 2022, which killed seven migrant workers and evacuated 3,000 households.
