The couple even tried to garland the inspector as a symbolic gesture to embarrass him.

Bhopal:

A couple in Madhya Pradesh came to a police station and performed an ‘aarti’ on an officer, not as a sign of respect but to vent their displeasure over the police’s alleged inaction in a theft complaint. The couple even tried to symbolically embarrass the inspector by garlanding him with flowers and draping a scarf on him. Video of the incident, which took place last week (April 6), was widely shared on social media. Town Inspector JP Patel was at the center of the drama at the police station and was seen leaving his room after his attempts to control the situation failed.

However, the riddle landed the couple – Anuradha and Kuldeep Soni – in a police case and drew severe criticism from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

“This behavior is meant to insult me”

The inspector said police were still investigating the theft and criticized the couple’s behavior towards him. “This was intended to insult me and hinder administrative work”.

“They recorded the incident at the police station and did a Facebook live broadcast without any permission. We asked them to sit down and discuss the matter. However, they did not listen,” Mr. Patel said.

The “theft” case that caused farce at the police station

The couple, who own jewelery shops in Rewa and Moganj districts, had recently accused two of their servants, Arpit and Mukesh, of stealing nearly four kilograms of silver and allegedly missing. They also lodged a complaint with Rewa police station in January this year.

However, the accused managed to hide and later got bail from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Soni family were allegedly upset because the accused seemed to have gotten away with the alleged crime, which they blamed on the police.

The police have now registered a case against the couple for conducting an unconventional protest. Even the High Court took notice of the incident inside the police station and termed it as misconduct.
