Government employees and private school staff have been instructed to work remotely on Tuesday due to heavy rains in Dubai and other parts of the United Arab Emirates and Arabian Peninsula.
The UAE National Meteorological Center has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and possible hail, along with winds of up to 70 km/h (43 mph).
In Oman, rescue operations continue after heavy rainfall caused flash floods on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, killing at least 17 people. Flash flooding is common during heavy rains, drawing onlookers to the nearby dry riverbed, known in Arabic as “wadis.” However, these areas can quickly fill with water during floods, posing a hazard to individuals and vehicles.
