A woman constable managed to catch an armed robber who was running away after firing at a bank cashier in Jaipur. A viral video shows how the female policewoman, who was on her way to work, arrested the criminal with the help of local people. The robber had a country-made pistol and was trying to evade arrest after opening fire at the bank cashier.
The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the branch.
Police said that on Friday, two masked robbers entered a branch of Punjab National Bank in Jaipur to loot cash. He said the robbers held the staff members at gunpoint and one of them shot and injured the cashier. The incident took place in Jhotwara area of the city.
Police said the robbers had an argument with cashier Narendra Singh Shekhawat and one of them, identified as Manoj Meena, opened fire at him. Hearing the sound of gunshot, local people gathered outside the bank.
Coincidentally, woman constable Maneka, who was patrolling at the same time, noticed the local people outside the PNB branch. When she stopped outside the bank to see what happened, Manoj was running away from the spot.
Maneka, with the help of local people, caught him, tied him to the railing and later handed him over to other policemen.
Additional Police Commissioner Kailash Chand Bishnoi said the cashier was shot in the stomach and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
“One of the accused had a country-made pistol and the other had an imitation weapon,” Mr Bishnoi told news agency PTI.
He said that the second accused Bharat Meena managed to escape from the spot and was later arrested.
