Video: Baltimore bridge collapses after ship strike, rescue efforts underway

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, US, was reportedly hit by a large container ship early on Tuesday.

Media reports stated that the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. local time in the United States. After the incident, several cars and people were seen in the water.

There are fears of casualties and rescue operations are underway.

Video of the incident was widely shared, showing the moments of collapse.

A 3-kilometer (1.6-mile) foundation bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, collapsed into the water after a cargo ship collided with it, Fox Baltimore reported.

Meanwhile, the local transportation department said all lanes in both directions were closed.

“Due to an incident on the I-695 Key Bridge, all lanes are closed in both directions. Traffic is being detoured,” the Maryland Transportation Authority posted on X.
