'Victory for voters': Sharad Pawar after Supreme Court's decision on faction's name, symbol

Sharad Pawar may approach the Election Commission for allotment of party symbol.

Mumbai:

Sharad Pawar on Monday termed the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for the voters that his group can use the name ‘NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar’ till further orders.

“This is a victory for the voters as the court said that the voters of the country should not be underestimated and the fact that the candidates have contested on the ticket of the parent party should not be questioned,” Pawar said in a statement.

The Supreme Court on Monday directed that the Election Commission’s February 6 order allotting the party name ‘Rashtriya Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar’ to the Sharad Pawar faction will continue till further orders.

“On the auspicious day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, the Supreme Court has granted us interim relief against the order of the Election Commission of India.

Pawar said, “We bow before the Supreme Court to recognize us as ‘Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar’ in the interim and direct the Election Commission of India to consider our election symbol application within 7 days. Have given instructions.”

“This is a major victory for democracy at large, and we will continue to fight for Dr. BR Ambedkar’s Constitution. Satyamev Jayate!” Pawar said.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and KV Vishwanathan dismissed the Ajit Pawar-led faction on Sharad Pawar’s plea against the Election Commission’s February 6 order recognizing the group led by the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister as the real Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Asked for answer from. ,

Issuing notice on Ajit Pawar’s action, the bench said, “We would like to investigate the matter.”

The bench granted liberty to Sharad Pawar to approach the Election Commission for allotment of the party symbol and directed the Election Commission to allot it within a week of the application.

Criticizing the Election Commission’s February 6 order recognizing the real NCP, the bench said, “The order says that both of you (factions) violated the constitution of the party, you both went against the ‘objectives and objectives’ and “Yet not one has been disqualified. Just imagine what will happen to those voters who voted for you.”
