New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the use of green firecrackers in Delhi during Diwali and accused former CM Arvind Kejriwal’s government of being anti-Hindu.
The Delhi BJP president said in a statement that his party has consistently maintained that firecrackers used on the night of Diwali are not responsible for the increase in winter pollution.
“There are many other important reasons. However, the previous government deliberately blamed firecrackers for pollution,” he said.
He further said that for the Sanatanis of Delhi, this permission to burst crackers on Diwali is the result of their correct voting decision in the elections.
According to him, the former government of Arvind Kejriwal, especially Kejriwal himself and Gopal Rai, are symbols of anti-Hindu leftist politics, and he further said that his government deliberately produced such figures which led the Supreme Court to ban bursting of firecrackers during Diwali in recent years.
He said, “This year there is a Sanatan-loving government in Delhi which presented the factual position before the Supreme Court and obtained permission to burst crackers on Diwali.”
Notably, the Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed limited sale and use of green firecrackers in Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) during Diwali, while issuing detailed directions to strictly regulate the sale, use and monitoring of fireworks to prevent a repeat of the pollution crisis witnessed in the national capital in previous years.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice K. A division bench of Justice Vinod Chandran allowed the sale of NEERI-approved green crackers from October 18 to October 20, observing that “when it comes to environment and health, commercial considerations and the spirit of celebration must be left behind”.
However, the CJI Gavai-led bench banned bursting of firecrackers from 6 am to 7 pm and 8 pm to 10 pm on the two days surrounding Diwali.
