New Delhi, October 9 (IANS) Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will visit Bihar to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary on October 11 at his native village in Sitab Diara in Saran district. An official gave this information on Thursday.
Radhakrishnan will pay homage at the ancestral house of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan in Sitab Diara and will also pay floral tributes at the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Memorial.
He will also visit Prabhavati Pustakalaya, named after Prabhavati Devi, wife of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan, in Sitab Diara, said an official statement.
Earlier on Thursday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met the Vice President at Vice President Enclave.
The Vice President also met several other dignitaries during the day.
Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) S. Selvagnabathy met the Vice President and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha at the Parliament House.
Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Parshottam Rupala also met the Vice President at Parliament House. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr. Sasmit Patra, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr. Kavita Patidar and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sanjay Seth also met the Vice President.
Radhakrishnan also came to Bihar on 28 September. On that occasion, while addressing the concluding session of the third edition of Unmesha – International Literary Festival in Patna, he had said that understanding each other’s literature could help in achieving “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and described one religion as a unifying force in the country.
He recalled his conversation with a European dignitary who asked how India remained united despite its many languages and cultures, to which he replied: “Despite the diversity of languages, our religion is one.”
He described Bihar as an intellectual powerhouse of the ancient world and highlighted the state’s ancient centers of learning including Nalanda and Vikramshila universities.
Highlighting the role of Bihar in social transformation, the Vice President recalled the Champaran Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi and the Total Revolution Movement led by Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, in which he actively participated at the age of nineteen, later becoming the District General Secretary of the movement.
