Chennai, Oct 28 (IANS) Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday urged citizens to work with dedication and unity to achieve the national vision of ‘Developed India 2047’.
Speaking at the Coimbatore Citizens Forum, he said that both farmers and industrial workers are the backbone of India’s progress and the country’s prosperity depends on their collective strength.
“Modernization does not eliminate labor – it enhances it,” the Vice President said, stressing that the development of agriculture and industry must go hand in hand to ensure inclusive national growth.
He said that transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 will require determination, discipline and a shared sense of purpose among all citizens.
Radhakrishnan, who started his public career in Coimbatore, arrived in the city during the day, where he was given a grand welcome as it was his first visit after taking over as the Vice President last month.
He landed at Coimbatore International Airport on a special flight from Seychelles, where he had attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new President of the island nation.
Tamil Nadu ministers Muthusamy and Saminathan, BJP state president Nainar Nagendran, former state chief K. Annamalai and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan welcomed him.
Hundreds of BJP workers and the public gathered at the airport to welcome him with cheers, garlands and slogans.
Addressing the gathering at the CODISSIA trade fair complex, Radhakrishnan said, “I started my public life in Coimbatore, and returning here as the Vice President of India fills me with pride. This post is not my personal honor – it is a recognition for every Tamil, Kongu Nadu and Coimbatore.”
He further said, “If the nation grows, we grow with it. This achievement is not mine alone – it belongs to every citizen who believes in the spirit of hard work and honesty.”
Later in the day, the Vice President paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Coimbatore Corporation office complex and attended the centenary celebrations of Shantalinga Ramasamy Adigalar at Perur Adheenam.
Meanwhile, a minor security incident occurred near the corporation office when two youths entered the restricted area on a two-wheeler. Following the complaint by BJP workers, the police detained him for questioning.
Commenting on the incident, Radhakrishnan said, “There has been no lapse in my security. The people of Coimbatore themselves are my security.”
On Wednesday he will visit Tiruppur and Madurai, including a visit to the Meenakshi Amman temple and later attend the Muthuramalinga Thevar birth anniversary celebrations in Ramanathapuram before returning to New Delhi.
