Raipur, Nov 5 (IANS) Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday participated in several programs organized at various places including Nava Raipur and Rajnandgaon districts during his one-day visit to Chhattisgarh.

The Vice President was on his first visit to Chhattisgarh to participate in the ‘Rajat Mahotsav’ – a three-day cultural event organized to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the state’s formation on November 1, 2000.

He watched the air show of Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) at Sendh Lake in Nava Raipur. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, formed in 1996, is renowned for its precision flying and spectacular aerial performance.

Later, Vice President Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Udayachal Multi-Specialty Eye Care Institute set up in Rajnandgaon district and felicitated the donors for their valuable contribution in building the health centre.

On this occasion, he also transferred an amount of more than Rs 647 crore to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under the ‘Mahtari Vandan’ scheme of the Chhattisgarh government.

Meanwhile, the Vice President also attended the ‘Lakhpati Didi Conference’ in Rajnandgaon and felicitated women who have been economically empowered through the Centre’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme.

Several ‘Lakhpati Didis’ who were honored on this special occasion spoke to IANS and expressed their gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chhattisgarh government for empowering them economically and socially.

Sangeeta Nirmal, associated with ‘Ekta Gram Sangathan’ in the state, said that the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme came as a miracle in her life as she is earning around Rs 6 lakh per year through various businesses.

Nirmal told IANS, “After getting a loan from the government, she first opened a general store and then also started a fish farming shop. I want to thank PM Modi for this scheme. I would also urge the government to keep helping women.”

Another beneficiary woman, Rukmini Sahu, who started a small business after getting a loan from the government scheme, said that becoming ‘Lakhpati Didi’ and then receiving the memento from the Vice President has inspired her to work harder.

She said, “The best thing about this scheme is that women can get loans at affordable interest rates and start their own small businesses. Today, I am earning Rs 7 to 8 lakh per year through multiple resources. I am also availing the benefits of many other schemes of the central and state governments.”
