The rail industry is offering free train travel to help giants to participate remembrance Services this November.

On Sunday November 9, veterans and military personnel will participate in services UK You will be able to travel by train for free.

Armed forces in uniform, including those holding a MOD90 ID card and veterans railcard with proof of service, can travel free under the offer – including travel through any London terminal station on Saturday 8 November.

For services outside LondonFree return journeys will only be available on Sunday 9 November.

The rail industry will also use this year’s bicentenary to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day as well as highlight the key role of the railways during the war effort.

Jacqueline Starr, CEO of Rail Delivery Group, said: “As we celebrate 200 years of rail, it is fitting that the industry reflects on the vital role it played in our nation’s war effort. Railways are always closely linked to memory, as many rail workers gave their lives during World War I.

“Today, we are proud to continue that relationship by helping serving personnel, veterans and volunteers participate in the services and programs that mean so much to them.”

Royal British Legion volunteers and collectors traveling through London during 29 and 31 October – London Poppy Days – will also receive free travel with a Collector’s ID card issued by the Royal British Legion.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: “Remembrance services are an important time for our country to come together, reflect on the sacrifices made and honor those who continue to protect our way of life. Free train journey This will make it easier for veterans and serving personnel to participate in those moments of national reflection.

“It is fitting that the rail industry, which played such a vital role in our nation’s war effort, celebrates these occasions by paying tribute to those who gave their lives and those who continue to serve today.”
