Alappuzha (Kerala), October 16 (IANS) A day after launching a scathing attack on his opponents within the CPI(M), veteran leader G. Sudhakaran on Thursday once again attacked his junior party colleague and state Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian along with several other party figures and announced that he will no longer take part in the party’s campaign activities.
Former cabinet minister Sudhakaran has been angry with his marginalization and mistreatment within the party for a long time.
He expressed displeasure over not being invited to any party function for the last five years and accused the leadership of isolating him despite decades of loyal service.
He also alleged that he and his family were repeatedly becoming targets of cyber attacks, which he claimed were being carried out by individuals associated with the party.
According to him, some party workers have insulted him on social media and spread falsehoods that he is obsessed with power and has parliamentary ambitions.
Sudhakaran demanded action against those behind the online abuse, saying, “These are completely baseless claims and those responsible must be held accountable.”
He targeted Alappuzha district secretary Nazar and minister Saji Cherian for allegedly running a public campaign against him and asked whether they too should be considered “cyber warriors”.
Sudhakaran also criticized the party leadership for failing to act on his complaints.
He commented, “Those who should be taking action against this cyber abuse are instead advising me as if I am the problem.”
He further questioned whether it was not a matter of pride for the District Secretary to continue working in a branch under his leadership. “Instead of being appreciated, I am being insulted,” he said.
Sudhakaran’s latest outburst has once again brought to the fore the internal dissent within the CPI(M), especially at a time when two crucial elections are round the corner.
Known for his clean image and outspoken style, Sudhakaran has had a strained relationship with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in recent years.
Supporting him, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan remarked that it was unfortunate that even stalwarts like Sudhakaran were not being spared by the “cyber goons” of the CPI(M).
Two-time former cabinet minister Sudhakaran is one of the most vocal leaders of the party from Alappuzha.
