Bhubaneswar, November 7 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday praised the country’s national song ‘Vande Mataram’, calling it not just a song but a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and bravery.
Participating in the state-level inaugural function of the year-long program to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song, Chief Minister Majhi said, “‘Vande Mataram’ is not just a song; it is a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and bravery. This song, derived from Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel ‘Anand Math’, had created awareness, enthusiasm and revolutionary spirit among the people of the country during the freedom struggle.”
He also extended hearty congratulations and best wishes to every citizen of the country on this historic occasion.
CM Majhi said, “It is indeed a moment of privilege and pride that 150 years ago, on November 7, 1875, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay composed ‘Vande Mataram’ – a song that became the spirit of India’s freedom movement.”
In his address during the state-level commemoration program here, the Chief Minister also said that the colonial rulers had banned ‘Vande Mataram’ fearing the immense popularity and influence of the song among the people, which is a testament to the power of the song.
CM Majhi said, “No matter what language we speak, what religion we follow, or what region we come from, without patriotism no nation can progress. ‘Vande Mataram’ rekindles the flame of love for the nation in our hearts.”
He said that observing various programs throughout the year in celebration of ‘Vande Mataram’ is very important to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the youth, children and students.
The Chief Minister called upon everyone to participate enthusiastically in all the activities conducted throughout the year to spread the pride and glory of Bharat Mata across the world.
CM Majhi and other dignitaries participated in the special program in the courtyard of Lok Seva Bhawan, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from New Delhi, followed by mass singing of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’.
