Jaipur, Nov 16 (IANS) Senior IAS officer V Srinivas has been officially appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, the state government issued fresh appointment orders on Sunday.
His return to the state cadre came soon after the Central government relieved him of deputation, clearing the administrative path for him to hold the top bureaucratic post.
Srinivas, a 1989 batch IAS officer, is one of the senior-most officers of the Rajasthan cadre and was widely expected to be selected for the role.
His appointment marks a significant administrative change in the state bureaucracy, especially as he brings with him over three decades of experience, including extensive service at the national and international levels.
Speculations regarding Srinivas’s appointment gained momentum after he met Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in Delhi earlier this week. After this meeting, the state government formally sent a proposal to the Center requesting their repatriation. Srinivas was serving as the secretary of the Ministry of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, and was relieved after the Center accepted the state’s request.
V. Srinivas has spent more than 20 years on central deputation and has held top level positions in various ministries. He has held the post of Secretary in the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare and also held the additional charge of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). His previous roles include assignments in the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Culture. During his tenure as Deputy Director at AIIMS, Delhi, he played a key role in launching the Digital-AIIMS project, which was an important step in the modernization of health care systems.
His international experience includes his tenure as an advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC, where he worked on governance and administrative reforms.
Srinivas on Friday chaired the nomination meeting for the National Awards for e-Governance 2026, one of his last activities in Delhi before returning to Rajasthan.
Now with his official appointment, he is expected to take charge at the Secretariat immediately. His entry is being seen as a major administrative boost, with the government hoping that his expertise in governance reforms and digital governance will accelerate key initiatives across Rajasthan.
