Dehradun, Nov 23 (IANS) The Uttarakhand government has revised the date of public holiday for Guru Teg Bahadur Martyrdom Day for 2025, increasing it from November 24 to November 25.
This change has been informed through an official order issued by the General Administration Department of the state.
In the earlier notification, November 24 (Monday) was listed as a public holiday for Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day. The new order partially amends that notification.
According to the government, now the holiday will be celebrated on 25th November (Tuesday) instead of 24th November announced earlier.
The revised date will be applicable to state government offices, non-government offices and educational institutions across Uttarakhand.
The notification clarifies that the revised public holiday will not be applicable to the Uttarakhand Secretariat, State Assembly and government offices where the five-day working week is in force. Such establishments will continue to follow their existing schedule as per the norms. The order states that the amended notification should be considered to be in force strictly to the extent of date change, all other conditions will remain unchanged.
There is no amendment to any other holidays or clauses mentioned in the previous 2024 notification.
State officials said the decision has been taken to ensure that the observance of Guru Teg Bahadur Martyrdom Day falls in line with the exact calendar date of 2025.
The Sikh community traditionally celebrates this day to commemorate the martyrdom of the ninth Sikh Guru, who is remembered for his defense of religious freedom and his sacrifice under Mughal rule.
The amended order has been digitally signed by Uttarakhand Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman. Copies of the amended notification have been circulated to all concerned administrative departments, district authorities and senior officials for compliance.
Public institutions and offices covered under the notification have been directed to implement the revised date and update their holiday schedules accordingly.
The General Administration Department has also directed the concerned departments to ensure that the revised information is communicated effectively so that employees and institutions are aware of the correct leave date.
With the updated order, November 25 will now be observed as the official public holiday for Guru Teg Bahadur Martyrdom Day across the state in place of the earlier notified date.
