Uttarakhand cabinet approves UCC report and bill to be tabled in Parliament on February 6

The Uttarakhand cabinet approved the Uniform Civil Code report at a key meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence on Sunday evening.

The UCC bill will be submitted to the state assembly for consideration on February 6 after the cabinet meeting approved the report.

The Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government held a cabinet meeting on Saturday to discuss and approve the draft Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which will bring new benefits to Uttarakhand under the Bharatiya Janata Party. Paving the way for becoming the first state in the country to adopt the Uniform Civil Code. .

After the meeting, the chief minister told reporters that many issues were discussed at the meeting, adding that “in this meeting” they will bring the UCC “whatever formalities are being completed”.

This comes after a government-appointed panel headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai on Friday asked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Singh Dhami, who said “the long-awaited moment has arrived”.
