Dehradun, Nov 4 (IANS) The corridors of the Uttarakhand Assembly echoed with thunderous applause on Tuesday as the hill state created history during its silver jubilee special session.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami rose to deliver a speech formally recognizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s hundred years of service to the nation, making the Assembly the first constitutional body in the country to do so on record.
Standing beneath the photo of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who carved out Uttar Pradesh from Uttar Pradesh and created Uttarakhand exactly twenty-five years ago, CM Dhami said, “Through its hundred years of tenacity, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has flowed a divine stream of cultural renaissance, social harmony, self-respect and patriotic service in India.”
“It has ignited the eternal flame of national consciousness in every corner of the country.”
The House packed with MLAs thumped their tables in unison. Dhami painted a vibrant picture; India, once gripped by a slave mentality, now stands on cultural pride, scientific thinking and ancient traditions.
“This is the fruit of the age-old penance of Swabhiman Sangh,” he said, crediting the organization for removing colonial inferiority complex from the national psyche.
He reminded the House how Devbhoomi has faced storms in its quarter-century journey, yet moved forward with unwavering resolve.
“With your blessings, Uttarakhand will soon be the best state of India,” he promised.
As the clock struck four, the Chief Minister’s tone turned poetic.
He recited lines from a Shakha song beloved by every swayamsevak: “Yeh uthal-puthal uchhal lehar, path se na digane paayegi, patwaar chalaate jaayenge, manzil aayegi, aayegi”…(This turmoil and surge will not deter us from our path, we will keep steering the boat, our destination will come, we will come…).
The opposition, usually quick to intervene, sat in rare silence, the words hanging like sunshine in the winter air.
After this, Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan put the proposal for voice vote. “All in favor?” A resounding “Aye” echoed throughout the hall.
The resolution was passed unanimously, marking the RSS tribute in the official records of independent India’s youngest hill state.
Outside, school children were waving tricolor flags while veterans of the 1994 statehood movement wiped tears.
Inside, a century of quiet nation-building received the highest constitutional salute ever.
