Used electric vehicle sales in the UK have reached unprecedented levels, signaling a significant shift in consumer preferences.
Data released by Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that 80,614 pure batteries electric cars were sold between July and September.
This represents a 4.0 percent market share, a significant increase from 2.8 percent during the same period last year.
Overall, the used car market saw 2,021,265 transactions in the third quarter, representing an increase of 2.8 percent year-on-year.
However, this positive trajectory could be jeopardized by the proposed Government Policy according to SMMT Chief Executive mike howes,
He warned that plans to bring vehicles purchased through employee car ownership schemes within the scope of company car tax could threaten the shift to electric motoring, potentially resulting in the schemes being closed down.

Mr Hawes said: “With used EV uptake at record highs, a strong used car market is essential to fleet renewal, and help make electrified mobility more accessible to more motorists.
“However, overall consumer choice and affordability are at risk if the government cancels employee car ownership schemes, a move that will choke the supply of latest vehicles to the used market and cut into government revenues.
,Britain Fiscal policy is needed that promotes rather than hinders economic growth, social mobility and decarbonization.
The news comes as the Chancellor Rachel Reeves is considering a plan that will see Drivers of electric cars charged 3 paise per mile, according to Wire,
This scheme is scheduled to be implemented from 2028, by which time Six crore people will drive electric cars,
The 3p charge on a journey from London to Edinburgh will equate to around £12, according to the newspaper, which also notes that drivers will have to estimate their own usage rather than being tracked electronically.
