A US delegation met oil company executives and industry leaders to explore increasing imports of hydrocarbons and civil nuclear energy technologies from the US, an official statement said on Thursday.

According to the statement, in the discussions held during the India Energy Week in Goa, the US reaffirmed its commitment to a strong and result-oriented energy partnership with India.

A statement issued by the US Consulate General Mumbai said, “…the US delegation met with Indian national oil companies and industry leaders to discuss increased imports of US hydrocarbons and civil nuclear energy technologies.”

It may be noted that India has recently opened up the nuclear power sector to private players, and several groups, including the JSW Group, are reportedly exploring the opportunity.

Acting Consul General Mike Schrader led the US delegation in events focused on expanding energy trade, strengthening infrastructure and advancing technology cooperation, the statement said.

It said this highlights the growing economic and strategic importance of the US-India energy relationship.

“Our collaboration is focused on taking action, expanding reliable U.S. energy exports, promoting transparent and market-driven growth, and supporting affordable, reliable energy supplies,” Schrader said.

Currently, the US supplies about 10 percent of India’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) demand, and discussions at the IEW explored opportunities to extend long-term contracts for US crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

As India looks to expand civil nuclear energy, US companies offer a “global track record of success”.
