US radio stations on standby as thieves steal 200ft tower

A brazen thief managed to steal a 200ft tall broadcast tower in Alabama, putting a local radio station on standby.according to new york postWalker County Radio staff don’t know how thieves got away with the heavy steel structure. However, Wang Jialong Station General Manager Brett Elmore said he still hopes someone will be able to share information that could help law enforcement find the person responsible for the theft. Still, he said he was shocked by what happened.

“I’ve been trying to figure this out all weekend and I just can’t,” Elmore told local television. “I’ve been in broadcasting, been around it my whole life and then professionally for 26 years, and I can say I’ve never heard of anything like this. I can say I’ve seen it all now,” he added.

Elmore said he first learned of the theft on Friday, when landscaping crews arrived but the thieves had already cleared the tower.

“When he arrived, he called me on Friday and said, ‘The tower is gone.'” I said, “You said the tower is gone? Are you sure you’re in the right place?” You know. He said, ‘The tower is gone. There are wires everywhere and it’s gone’,” the station general manager said one of the staff told him.

“It does hurt small businesses like this, but like I said, I’m sure we’re going to find out who did it. It’s a federal crime and it’s definitely not worth it to them,” he further said Tell world radio and television.

Mr Elmore said in a Facebook post that the thieves dismantled the tower by cutting the wires holding it in place and also stole other equipment inside.
