President Trump said he spoke to PM Modi and discussed trade and efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, with PM Modi reportedly committing to “reduce” purchases of Russian oil.
“I love the people of India. We are working on some great agreements between our countries. I spoke to Prime Minister Modi today and we have very good relations,” PM Modi told reporters at the White House.
He said, “He’s not going to buy a lot of oil from Russia. He wants to see that war end as much as I do. He wants to see the war between Russia and Ukraine end. He’s not going to buy a lot of oil. So he cut it down a long time ago and he’s been cutting it down all the time.”

Prime Minister Modi appreciated Trump’s call but did not mention the discussion related to buying Russian oil. However, he highlighted the cooperation between both India and the US against counter-terrorism.
