Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Enforcement Directorate has extended his detention by another four days in the alleged liquor policy scam. Mr Kejriwal will now be detained by the investigating agency till April 1. The agency, which investigates financial crimes, requested seven days of detention.
The agency claimed to have evidence of the use of slush funds by AAP in the Goa elections. Addressing the court directly, the First Minister accused the Education Department of trying to “crack down” on his party. He also noted that “no court has proven my guilt” and slammed what he said were flimsy reasons for arresting the sitting chief minister.

‘Unfounded and unacceptable’: India responds to US arrest of Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal’s government has been accused of corruption after it implemented a policy to liberalize liquor sales in 2021 and gave away lucrative government stakes in the industry. The policy was revoked the following year, but subsequent investigations into alleged corruption in the allocation of licenses led to the imprisonment of two senior allies of Kejriwal.

In its fresh remand plea, the Enforcement Directorate said that during Arvind Kejriwal’s custodial interrogation, his statement was recorded for five days and he “gave evasive replies”. The statements of three other persons were also said to have been recorded while on remand.

Delhi High Court dismisses petition seeking removal of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal
The Delhi High Court today dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi Chief Minister following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the liquor policy case and Indicates that the scope of judicial intervention is not limited to this. The court said that if the constitution is flawed, the president or governor will take action.
Arvind Kejriwal’s custody extended by 4 days in Delhi liquor policy case
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to the Enforcement Directorate for four more days. Mr Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the liquor policy scam and is currently lodged at the ED’s Delhi office. He will now be detained by the investigating agency until April 1.
ED: “Arvind Kejriwal hired barristers to attend hearings but not everyone has such facilities. If someone’s statement is made under pressure, then that is an issue relevant to the trial. We have strong Evidence shows that Arvind Kejriwal demanded a bribe of Rs 100 crore.”

Arvind Kejriwal said he would like to thank ED officials and employees who have cooperated with the investigation so far. “The ED filed the ECIR on August 22, 2022, and I was arrested but not convicted by any court. So far, the ED has collected 31,000 documents and I am mentioned in only four statements.”
Kejriwal said Raghav Magunta had five statements and he said what he was asked to say. “He failed to mention that my six statements were not recorded.”
Arvind Kejriwal told the court: “This case has been going on for two years. The case was registered on August 17. No court has found me guilty. There are no charges against me and there is no case against me. But I have been arrested. Man Nish Sisodia’s secretary C. Arvind said that Mr. Sisodia gave him some documents in my presence. Many ministers came to my house to provide documents. Is this enough to arrest the sitting chief minister?”
Arvind Kejriwal Live Updates: Enforcement Directorate seeks 7-day detention of Arvind Kejriwal
The Enforcement Directorate requested that Arvind Kejriwal be detained for another seven days. After his arrest on Thursday, he was remanded to the custody of the Education Bureau last Friday for seven days, which ends today.
