Police said Himanshu was arrested soon after he killed his mother and disposed of the body.

A man addicted to online gaming killed his mother so he could claim her life insurance payout and clear his debt, police have said. A shocking incident has come to light in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where accused Himanshu allegedly killed his mother to claim insurance of Rs 50 lakh and then threw her body on the banks of Yamuna river.
Police have said that the accused was addicted to gaming on the popular platform Zoopy. The addiction was such that due to repeated losses he had to borrow money and continue playing. After a time, he realized that he owed around Rs 4 lakh. The question now was how to pay the creditors. What happened next was a cruel conspiracy.
Police said Himanshu stole his aunt’s jewelery and used the money to buy a life insurance policy worth Rs 50 lakh for his parents. Soon after, when his father was out, he allegedly strangulated his mother Prabha to death, police said. He kept the body in a jute bag and took his tractor to the banks of Yamuna river to dispose of it.
Himanshu’s father Roshan Singh, who had gone to Chitrakoot temple, returned when he did not find his wife and son at home. He asked around and then went towards his brother’s house in the same area. No one knew where Prabha was. Then a neighbor told that he had seen Himanshu on a tractor near the river.
Police were informed and the body was recovered from near Yamuna. Himanshu was arrested soon after. During his interrogation, a shocking thing came to light that a son had conspired to murder his mother so that he could repay his debt. Senior police officer Vijay Shankar Mishra said, “The son was on the run after killing his mother. We caught him and unraveled the horrific crime.”

Zooey, which is one of the popular platforms for online gaming, warns users that they should play only for fun. Its Do’s and Don’ts list states, “Do not play to earn extra income. Do not play on impulse. Do not play with loaned money.”
