Lucknow, September 27 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the tragic stampede during a political rally in Karur in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
The incident, which took place during the Tamil actor-was for his party Tamilga Vatri Kazgam (TVK) during the campaign of-Raja-royalty Vijay, lost at least 36 people and injured more than 60.
In a hearty message posted on X, CM Yogi Adityanath wrote, “Karur, suffering from deep accidents in Tamil Nadu. This tragic incident has taken away the precious life. I expand my heartiest condolences to the bereaved families.
Crush like a stampede occurred in Velusmipuram on the Karur-Aerode highway, where the estimated 60,000 people gathered-that number was doubled for which permission was given.
Eyewitnesses said that anarchy began when large parts of the crowd moved towards the barricades to catch a glimpse of victory, causing suffocation and nervousness.
Many fainted, and the ambulance struggled to reach the injured due to the mob.
