A bench of Justices Subramaniam Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar released Sengar on bail and directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 15 lakh along with three sureties of the same amount.
The high court also directed Sengar not to come within 5 km radius of the victim’s house and not to threaten her or her mother.
“Bail will be canceled in case of violation of any of the conditions,” the court said.
The High Court has suspended Sengar’s sentence pending the appeal challenging her conviction and sentence in the rape case. He has challenged the trial court’s December 2019 decision in the rape case.
Sengar had kidnapped and raped a minor girl in 2017.
On August 1, 2019, the rape case and other related cases were transferred from a trial court in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi on the directions of the Supreme Court.
Sengar’s appeal against his conviction in the custodial death of the victim’s father is also pending, where he has sought suspension of the sentence on the grounds that he has already spent a lot of time in jail. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the custodial death case.
