Jaipur, October 17 (IANS) The State High Court has granted bail to three accused, including NSUI state president Vinod Jakhar, in the case of uproar during the RSS’s ‘Shastra Pujan’ program at Rajasthan University.
The bench of Justice Anup Dhandh granted bail.
Earlier, both the trial court and the Additional District Magistrate Court had rejected his bail plea.
Following this, Vinod Jakhar, Kishore Choudhary and Kamal Choudhary approached the High Court for relief.
Jakhar alleged that he has been implicated in the case due to political vendetta, saying his protest was carried out in a Gandhian and peaceful manner against a politically motivated event organized in an educational institution. The incident took place on September 30 during the RSS’s ‘Shastra Pujan’ ceremony at Rajasthan University.
NSUI workers allegedly entered the venue to protest and started vandalizing the stage, leading to a clash between members of the two groups.
Police intervened and resorted to lathi charge amid heavy rain to disperse the crowd. Following the disturbance, 12 NSUI workers were detained on charges of disturbing public order.
Later, a case was registered against nine people under various sections related to hurting religious sentiments, damaging government property and obstructing government work.
Earlier, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident, saying, “It is highly irresponsible and condemnable that the university administration allowed a politically affiliated organization like RSS to organize Shastra Pujan program inside the campus.”
“Universities are supposed to be centers of learning, not grounds for political and ideological aggression,” he said.
Gehlot said that “university officials, including the vice-chancellor, are working under pressure from the RSS, and this incident reflects growing efforts to saffronise educational spaces in the state”.
“After the incident, when NSUI workers objected to the RSS activity, they were met with violence. Several NSUI members, including state president Vinod Jakhar, were arrested. Videos from the incident site reveal that police officers themselves were involved in vandalizing the vehicles of NSUI workers.”
