Srinagar, June 19: Union Secretary, Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Atul Kumar Tiwari, chaired a high level meeting in the Civil Secretariat today, which is present, to review the progress on the implementation of PM Vishwakarma, Prime Minister Kushal Kushal Vikas Yojana (PMKV).

Addressing the officials, the Secretary called for the alignment of training programs with local economic capacity and emerging industry trends. He directed the officials to organize short -term training programs for the youth through NIT Srinagar to make them efficient about emerging market trends.
The Secretary influenced the representatives of the Higher Education Department to take advantage of various schemes of the Ministry, so that students were made institutional to go to Skilling College to make them jobable. He highlighted that the skilling of the youth is one of the pillars of the National Education Policy -2020, saying that educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir should avail these courses available on Skill India portal and other platforms.
During the depth discussion on PM Vishwakarma, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Sankalp, Strive and other schemes, the Secretary called upon all the underperforming PM Vishwakarma centers across the J&K. He said that Jammu and Kashmir are known for artisan heritage and this historical initiative will help in protecting and promoting the craft industry here.
The Secretary also asked the officials to make better use of MSDE schemes related to hospitality and tourism areas as the UT is known worldwide for its tourism industry. “Jammu and Kashmir have immense potential for skill-based growth, especially in areas such as handicrafts, tourism, construction and agricultural consumption. Our aim is to create an inclusive, demand-driven and result-oriented skill route for youth and traditional artisans”, maintained the secretary.
During the meeting, the Secretary also appreciated J&K’s SDD for his outstanding performance of Skill Development Institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Secretary SDD, Kumar Rajiv Ranjan made a detailed presentation on skill development initiative and the implementation of his grounds across the region. He informed the Secretary about the overall skill development scheme (HSDP). He also provided updates on major performance indicators and underlined his roadmap to score the outreach, ensured quality training and facilitated employment linkage.
