Hyderabad, November 2 (IANS) Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday challenged the Congress government in Telangana to scrap the fine rice scheme.

That Chief Minister A. Revanth was reacting to Reddy’s alleged threat to the people of Jubilee Hills constituency that if they chose any other party’s candidate in the by-election, the government would stop welfare schemes including supply of free fine rice to poor families through fair price shops.

Addressing a press conference, Kishan Reddy demanded that the Congress government should clearly state who is implementing the fine rice scheme. He claimed that the Good Rice Scheme is not a state government scheme and the Chief Minister is misleading the people.

The BJP leader said that the central government is implementing the rice scheme in the entire state.

He said that the Central Government is giving Rs 42 for every kg of rice under this scheme, while the State Government is giving only Rs 15, but is calling it its own scheme.

Kishan Reddy, who is actively campaigning in the by-elections to be held on November 11, said the BJP has complained to the Election Commission about the Chief Minister’s threat to discontinue the fine rice scheme.

The BJP leader said that threatening to stop welfare schemes if one does not vote for a particular party is a violation of the model code of conduct.

He alleged that the Congress party came to power in Telangana by cheating the people. He said that the Congress government has made the state completely bankrupt in the education and health sectors.

He rejected the Chief Minister’s allegation that he was trying to stop the Hyderabad Metro expansion.

He also accused Congress of criticizing BJP to get MIM votes in the constituency.

Kishan Reddy said the BJP is conducting 50 Maha Padyatras in Jubilee Hills as part of its campaign for the by-elections.

BJP leaders and workers are going door to door telling people about the failures of Congress and BRS. People are also being told how BJP will ensure development in the constituency if its candidate is elected.

Jubilee Hills is one of the assembly constituencies under the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Kishan Reddy.
