Russia says it destroyed 283 Ukrainian drones

The Russian Defense Ministry said air defense units destroyed a total of 283 Ukrainian drones on Sunday. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine about the attack.

Kiev says its drone strikes against Russian energy infrastructure are retaliation for Russian attacks on its power grid. Russia is attacking Ukraine’s electricity and heating infrastructure.

Nearly 60,000 people were left without power after Russia’s overnight airstrike on Ukraine’s border region of Zaporizhia, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday, while two people were killed in the southern region of Odessa.

Drone debris was found in five settlements in the Tuapse municipal district, damaging the windows of some flats and houses. The regional administration said no injuries were reported, although the railway station in Tuapse suffered some minor damage.

Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia said on Telegram that the overnight attack led to the temporary closure of several Russian airports, mainly in the south and west of the country, for security reasons.

Ukraine confirms drone strike targeting Tuapse

Ukraine’s military launched a drone attack on the Tuapse oil terminal, an official with Ukraine’s SBU domestic security service said on Sunday. The official said five drone strikes hit an oil tanker, loading infrastructure and nearby port buildings.

The port is home to the Tuapse Black Sea oil terminal and a Rosneft-controlled oil refinery, which Ukraine has targeted in several drone attacks this year.

It was not immediately known whether the terminal was operating after the attack, with authorities saying its buildings and other infrastructure were damaged.

The export-oriented Tuapse plant, which has a processing capacity of 240,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), produces naphtha, fuel oil, vacuum gasoil and high-sulfur diesel.

Ukrainian attack on Black Sea port damages ships and oil terminals

A Ukrainian drone attack damaged at least two foreign ships and oil terminal infrastructure at Russia’s key Black Sea port of Tuapse on Sunday, as Kiev seeks to undermine Russia’s war efforts by targeting its energy infrastructure.

Ukraine has been attacking Russian oil refineries, depots and pipelines for several months to undermine the Russian economy, and some media have reported that Western intelligence agencies helped Kiev in the attacks.

Russian officials said two foreign ships were damaged in the attack on Tuapse, one of the largest oil terminals on the Black Sea, which caused a fire.

“As a result of a drone strike on the port of Tuapse on the night of November 2, two foreign civilian ships were damaged,” the emergency operations headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory said in a statement.

Unverified footage on Russian and Ukrainian Telegram news channels showed a terminal and a tanker burning at night. Reuters could not independently verify the reports.

The operational headquarters said there were no casualties among the ships’ crews and all fires were extinguished but there was damage to “the terminal’s buildings and infrastructure”.
