Trump and Zelensky to discuss possible missile supply deal
More details have emerged about Friday’s meeting between Trump and Zelensky, with the Ukrainian leader telling reporters the two planned to discuss Ukraine’s air defense and long-range strike capabilities.
Speaking to reporters in Kiev, Zelensky said he had shared a “view” with Trump on how many U.S. Tomahawk missiles Ukraine needs for its war effort against Russia and that the two leaders would discuss more details on the matter at their working lunch at the end of the week.
Zelensky is lobbying Washington for supplies of US-made Tomahawk missiles, which have the capability to hit Moscow, but Ukraine has said they would be used only against military targets. Moscow has said such a move represents a serious escalation. Trump has suggested that he would consider sending missiles to Ukraine, but has also said that he might talk to Vladimir Putin about it.

EU will support special tribunal to prosecute Russia for aggression towards Ukraine
The EU will provide €10m (£8.7m) to support the creation of a special tribunal aimed at prosecuting Russia for the crime of aggression, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has said.
Speaking at a news conference in Kiev alongside Ukrainian official Andriy Sibiha, Kallas said the funding marks the bloc’s first direct financial commitment to the tribunal effort.
He also pledged an additional €6m (£5.2m) to support Ukrainian children deported to Russia and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.
“The first €10m in funding to set up a special tribunal to address Russia’s crimes” has now been allocated, Kallas said, underscoring the EU’s continued support for Ukraine as the war enters its third year.

Zelensky tells NATO Putin ‘may be forced to make peace’
President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he believes Russian leader Vladimir Putin may be forced to make peace in Ukraine.
Speaking at the NATO parliamentary assembly, Zelensky said that despite the end of the conflict in Gaza, the war in Ukraine remains the biggest source of global instability.
Zelensky said, “Putin may be forced to restore peace like any other terrorist. Even Hamas is now preparing to release hostages. If this is possible, Putin may also be forced to restore peace.”
He added: “Before winter, Putin hopes to use this terror to break our resistance regime. We cannot allow this.”

Two Russian citizens accused of spying in Poland

NATO chief mocks ‘broken’ Russian submarine
NATO chief Mark Rutte has mocked Russia over the “lame” condition of one of its submarines, in a move likely to provoke anger in Moscow.
Russia’s Black Sea Fleet said the diesel-powered submarine Novorossiysk had surfaced from France to comply with navigation rules in the English Channel.
Moscow rejected reports it had suffered serious malfunctions.
But Rutte said in a speech in Slovenia that the ship was “broken”.
“In fact, there is hardly any Russian naval presence left in the Mediterranean now. There is only one lone, broken-down Russian submarine returning home from patrol,” he said.
“How much has changed since the 1984 Tom Clancy novel ‘The Hunt for Red October’. Today, it feels like looking for the nearest mechanic.”
