British police have arrested two men suspected of murdering former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins Stabbed to death in a prison in the North EnglandWhere he was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex crimes.
Emergency services were called HMP Wakefield In West Yorkshire Watkins, 48, was attacked with a knife on Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The murder investigation is underway after the arrest of two men, aged 25 and 43. West Yorkshire Police Said in a statement.
In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including attempting to rape a child, sexually touching a 1-year-old child, encouraging a fan to abuse his child, and making child pornography.
At sentencing, Judge John Royce called Watkins a cunning and dangerous sexual predator who abused his fame to satisfy his “insatiable lust”.
“People who have appeared in these courts over many years have seen a huge number of horrific cases,” Royce said during sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court. “However, this case breaks new ground.”
Watkins was the lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, which topped the UK charts in 2006 with their third album, “Liberation Transmission”. Following Watkins’ arrest, the band announced it was disbanding.
