UGC issues notice to 54 private varieties to fail to disclose compulsory information

New Delhi, September 30 (IANS) University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued notices to 54 private universities in several states, which have failed to follow the compulsory criteria under their rules.

“It has been observed that 54 state private universities have not submitted information under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956, or uploaded public self-evolution information on their respective website,” the notice said.

These institutions have not uploaded the necessary information about their functioning on their official websites, despite repeated reminders, said this.

According to the UGC guidelines, each university needs to self-consider the major details of the courses, research activities, faculty information, students’ strength, infrastructure, financial systems and related educational activities available to the public.

It said that this information should be accessible without logging in or the need for registration, ensuring transparency and easy access to students, parents and other stakeholders.

However, despite several reminder through official letters, emails and discussions in online meetings, 54 have failed to follow universities.

The UGC has now made public the list of these non-non-non-compliance institutes, including Gujarat, Haryana, Assam, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Mahanra, Mahanra, Mahanra, Mara, Manhra, among others.

UGC Secretary Professor Manish Joshi has written to all these universities, instructing them to present the necessary details on both their websites and the Commission immediately.

In his letter, he insisted that “students and parents should have access to complete and authentic information about higher education institutions before taking important decisions”.

Some universities have allegedly started reviewing their documents and updating their portal, while others have promised to comply soon.

However, the UGC has clarified that uploading information on the institutional website alone is not enough and the details should also be presented to the Commission for monitoring.

The Commission reiterated that the disclosure system is designed to strengthen accountability, build confidence among stakeholders and ensure that higher education institutions work in a transparent manner.

The complete list of 54 non-transport universities is available on the official UGC website.
