Mumbai, Nov 3 (IANS) Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday strongly refuted BJP’s charge of ‘vote jihad’ and said his party, along with other constituents of Maha Vikas Aghadi and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, is demanding cleansing of voter lists and then holding the upcoming elections for local and civic bodies in Maharashtra.
Alleging that the Election Commission of India and the Center are afraid of Gen Z, he claimed that youth who turn 18 will not be able to cast their vote as the election panel has set July 1 as the cut-off date for voter registration for the upcoming local and civic body elections.
He demanded that youth who will turn 18 after July 1 should be allowed to vote in the upcoming municipal elections.
“The Election Commission should correct the errors in the voter list, including duplicate and fake voters. Shiv Sena (UBT) or others have not referred any fake voter by his religion. The opposition is not against elections, but wants elections to be conducted only after cleaning the voter list,” he said at the press conference.
“The Election Commission has set June 1 as the cut-off date for voters. This means that children who turn 18 after July 1 will not be able to vote in the upcoming local body elections. These children will not be able to exercise their right to vote. While children of their age are taking to the streets across the world and creating revolutions, why are the state and central governments afraid of the children of the Gen Z generation?” he asked.
Thackeray appealed to all voters to visit the nearest Shiv Sena (UBT) branch and check their names in the voter list. “Has anyone left your name? Has your address changed? Has your age, gender or religion changed? Leave the ruling party, but all other political parties are united against voter fraud. We are opening centers to facilitate voters. I request citizens to check whether they will be able to vote at these polling centres. So, we will know how many lakhs of boys and girls we are depriving of voting,” he said.
Thackeray congratulated BJP minister Ashish Shelar for showing the courage to unknowingly consider Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as his papa. “CM Fadnavis did not accept the issue of vote theft. Because of this, Ashish Shelar rejected Devendra Fadnavis’ stand and had the courage to consider CM Fadnavis as Maharashtra’s Pappu. This could be due to the internal dispute between them. Ashish Shelar, who held the press conference only after Devendra Fadnavis returned from election campaigning in Bihar, has proved that there is confusion in the voter list,” Thackeray claimed. Did it.
“We suspect that the Election Commission is not handling the competent app and the Election Commission servers. Someone must have registered in the app in my name and then received an OTP, from which my name and that of my family would have been excluded. We ask voters to come to the party branches and check whether their name is in the voter list or not. The Election Commission is a ghost. So, if there are any other voters at your address, please let them know. We are exposing the corrupt practices of the Election Commission.”
He reiterated that Shiv Sena (UBT) and other opposition parties are approaching the court demanding rectification of errors in duplicate and fake voters and then conducting local and civic body elections in the state.
