The U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions on Friday against a network of companies and individuals that facilitated illegal technology transfers by dozens of U.S. companies to Iranian entities, including Iran’s central bank.
The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that the sanctions involve the Information Services Company (ISC), the technical arm of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).
It also sanctioned a number of ISC subsidiaries and front companies allegedly based in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, as well as three individuals allegedly associated with the companies, including French-Iranian dual national Priya Mildamadi (Pouria Mirdamadi).
Brian Nelson, the U.S. Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said the CBI “played a critical role” in providing financial support to Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ foreign force, known as the Quds Force.
“The United States will continue to use all available means to thwart the Iranian regime’s illegal attempts to obtain sensitive U.S. technology and critical inputs,” he said in a statement.
The Treasury Department’s move freezes any U.S. assets associated with sanctioned individuals and entities and generally prohibits Americans from doing business with them.
