The American Airlines pilots union claims the airline is facing a “serious surge” in safety and maintenance issues, CNN the report said.

The United Pilots Association is warning members and travelers to be aware of “problematic trends.”

The United Pilots Association’s safety committee wrote in an email to members that there has been a “significant increase in safety and maintenance-related issues across our operations.”

They claim they have seen tools being left in wheel wells, items being left in sterile areas around the aircraft, fewer inspections, shorter test flight times after major maintenance work and an overall decline in quality.

The new information comes amid several flight incidents that have plagued airlines, including an exploding in-flight door plug on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft.

There have been about a dozen incidents since last month.

Union spokespeople have expressed their concerns to the airline’s senior managers.

Dennis Tajer, a pilot and union spokesman, said the union had recently spoken with senior management and “management’s initial response to our demands is encouraging. We fully intend to do everything we can to ensure American maintains a strong margin of safety.” “

The FAA declined to comment on the union’s claims.
