Jaipur, September 18 (IANS) A dilapidated house in the old city of Jaipur fell early Thursday morning, buried under the rubble. One of the women, Dhanibai (60), died tragically on the spot. Another woman, Sunita (35) faced one leg fracture and facial injuries. The incident took place at 7 am in Subhash Chowk police station area and helped to come late by two hours.
According to family members, the rescue team, despite being informed about the accident immediately after the fall, arrived at around 9 pm after the accident.
Local people asked Tarun Mahawar, a relative of the injured women, to inform them about the incident.
Fortunately, two children living in the house were playing outside at the time of fall and were unhealthy.
The region is a center of unsafe, chronic buildings. A few days ago, a mansion collapsed in Subash Chowk, resulting in a father and daughter.
Following the tragic accident, a list of 48 dilapidated buildings was compiled by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and action was taken to seal eight buildings in the Kishanpol region.
However, these recent deaths have raised serious concerns about the municipal response to the safety of old buildings. The house where the collapse occurred was settled by two women and a housekeeper.
The owner, who lives nearby, was allegedly aware of the poor condition of the building, but failed to take any action. Local residents Pratap Singh and Ghansham Soni mentioned that after getting trapped under the rubble, Sunita was shouting for help, but no immediate assistance came.
Deputy Commissioner of Hawamahal region Seema Chaudhary said that notices have been issued to all owners of chronic buildings in the area, and survey is being done.
Announcements have been made to vacate unprotected structures to people, some have been transferred to government -nominated buildings.
The delay in rescue operations and the ongoing neglect of unprotected buildings have expressed displeasure among the local people, who are calling for more accountability from the Jaipur Municipal Corporation and building building owners to stop further tragedies.
