Srinagar, Oct 8 (IANS) Two soldiers have gone missing during an anti-terrorist operation in Kokernag area of J&K Anantnag district, sources said on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the two Army personnel lost touch with their team in the higher reaches of Kokarnag area during the operation.
A source said, “A massive search has been launched in the dense forest area to trace the man who lost contact with his team due to the prevailing weather conditions in the region during the last two days.
The soldiers were part of a small team which launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the area on Tuesday.
Since then, communication has not been established with them. Helicopters have been pressed into service to assist ground troops in search efforts.
“An operation to trace the two soldiers is underway with the army, other security forces and local police,” the source said.
However, there has been no official confirmation of the two soldiers.
The joint forces, including the Army, other security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, are carrying out aggressive counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, their Overground Workers (OGWs) and sympathizers to destroy the entire ecosystem of terror in the UT.
Security agencies of both the Center and the UT are attaching properties of terrorists, their OGWs and sympathizers, besides those involved in drug smuggling and drug peddling.
Security forces believe that the money generated by drug smuggling and hawala money rackets is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The local police, its crime branch, State Investigation Agency (SIA), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are conducting specific operations against terrorist operators involved in economic crimes, etc.
